Marvin Harrison Jr. became the first rookie to accomplish a rare NFL feat on Sunday since his dad so 28 years ago.
Harrison broke out in a big way during the Arizona Cardinals’ 41-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams by recording four catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first quarter.
According to NFL.com, “Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. is the first rookie to have 4+ receptions and 2+ receiving TD in a first quarter since his dad, Colts WR Marvin Harrison, did it in 1996. In fact, Harrison Jr. had more receiving yards (130) in the first quarter in Week 2 than his dad had in any single game as a rookie in 1996.”
The elder Harrison would go on to have a Hall-of-Fame career with the Colts, reeling in 1,102 receptions for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns during his 12-year career.
His son will look to follow in his footsteps and make his name known to everyone with performances like he had on Sunday.
Harrison thinks he will have plenty of opportunities to continue to build on with the Cardinals, as evidenced by Kyler Murray becoming the first quarterback this season to finish with a perfect passer rating after completing 17-of-21 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns.
“Within the building, we think we have the best offense in the NFL, just from a talent standpoint, who the coaches are,” Harrison said after the win over the Rams. “Obviously with 1 (Murray) back there, we can do anything. I think we got to continue to show that, improve that on a weekly basis, and we’ll continue to get better.”
