Jaccob Slavin Ties Carolina Hurricanes Franchise Record - Carolina Hurricanes News, Analysis and More

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin has now tied the all-time, franchise record for points by a defenseman after registering an assist in the Hurricanes' 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night.

Slavin ties Justin Faulk (258 points) who has been alone at the top for nearly five full seasons.

"Just tied it, haven't beat it yet, so I still got some work to do there," Slavin joked. "But no, I'm grateful. Extremely blessed to be able to play this many years in the league. God's been good to me and all the glory goes to him, but it's been fun. Hopefully there's a lot more to come and a lot more games to come, but it's just another fun part of the journey and to be able to do it with the guys in the locker room and the guys that I've played with for a long time is special."

Earlier in the season, Slavin also passed Dave Babych for the most assists by a defenseman in franchise history leaving him only chasing total goals out of the big three stats, although Faulk's record of 85 is a ways off of Slavin's 47 which ranks third.

Slavin has played nine seasons (636 games) for the Hurricanes since being drafted in the fourth-round of the 2012 draft. Known as a defensive specialist, Slavin still has quite a bit of offensive flare to his game having had career highs of eight goals (2017-18 and 2018-19) and 42 points (2021-22).He's continued to climb the charts all while having virtually no power play time at all. In total, he has seven power play goals and 28 power play points throughout his career.

For reference he has four shorthanded goals and 15 shorthanded points.

Slavin is an integral piece of the Hurricanes' core and there's no doubt that he will continue to climb more of the franchise's record lists as his career continues.

"You can't say enough good things," said Rod Brind'Amour. "I think we don't talk about him enough, but he's such a huge part of what we're doing back there. So it doesn't surprise me that he's putting up all these stats. You don't really judge him by his stats though. His overall impact to the group is far, far greater than that."
