Some great thoughts from Bengals captain Ted Karras.
Things are not trending in a positive direction for Cincinnati Bengals fans on the Ja’Marr Chase front.
After logging two practices this week, today, the WR1 for Joe Burrow was back to being a spectator.
Head coach Zac Taylor was asked if anything happened between Tuesday (when Taylor said he expected Chase to practice) and Wednesday (when Chase showed up late and in street clothes).
“I said that yesterday?” Taylor quipped facetiously.
When asked if he expects his superstar receiver to play Week 1, Taylor said, “This is all part of that plan that we’ve talked about.” Then, smiling, he said, “So this is just the later stages of that plan.”
He then gave a more measured response than he did previously in the week, saying, “I think it’s wise for me just to say we’re going to take it day to day and see what tomorrow brings.”
The good news is one of the Bengals’ biggest leaders, center Ted Karras, expressed support for Chase, going as far as to say the contract negotiations have been handled “fantastically” and haven’t been a distraction.
“I understand the business aspect of it,” Karras said. “There are absolutely zero hard feelings amongst any players if that’s what you’re getting at. I don’t know the internal negotiations upstairs. Obviously, that’s between them. Hopefully, they get it done.”
We talked about Chase’s contract situation in our most recent show.
