A very quiet night on the farm as everyone either lost or didn’t play.
Not much action on the farm this evening.
Iowa Cubs
I don’t know what wrong with Principal Park, but the field still isn’t playable.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were silenced by the Birmingham Barons (White Sox), 1-0.
Starter Sam Armstrong gave up a solo home run in the first inning to Canaan Smith-Njigba and that was the last run of the game. Armstrong turned in a strong start anyway, going six innings and allowing one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out four.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were creamed by the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins), 5-2.
Starter Drew Gray got the loss after giving up four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings. Gray struggled with the strike zone as he walked six and struck out four.
For the second-straight night, right fielder Andy Garriola hit a solo home run. Tonight’s came in the eighth inning. Garriola was a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles, the home run and a walk. He scored twice. Garriola now has 20 home runs this year and two with South Bend.
Shortstop Cristian Hernandez hit an RBI double in the top of the first inning. He was 1 for 4.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were blinded by the Columbia Fireflies (Royals), 9-0.
