This season, Johnson Jr. has moved to left tackle after playing right tackle last year during his rookie year. The 2023 No. 6 overall pick out of Ohio State started 13 games at left tackle for the Buckeyes in 2022 so the move was a natural transition.

PFF gave Johnson an 83.5 overall grade that slots him ninth among tackles.

Johnson has put his blue-chip traits on display across the board — especially in run blocking, where he boasts an 80.6 mark. A nice complement is his pass protection, where he has surrendered only five pressures on 129 opportunities.

Although the Cardinals are 1-3, the offense has been sound so far, sitting ninth in EPA per play. Johnson helping protect Kyler Murray and open rushing lanes for James Conner has been an asset.

What did Kyler Murray say about Paris Johnson Jr.?

At practice on Tuesday, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray praised Johnson Jr. not only for his play on the field but also for his leadership.

“He’s a younger guy but he’s growing into his own,” Murray said. “He’s becoming a leader each and every day. He’s very versatile in the sense that he’s able to be a funny guy off the field but when we’re in war it’s time to go.

“He’s locked in and you almost can’t even talk to him because he’s really emotional and he’s super locked in, so I’m excited to see him continue to grow, continue to grow as a leader but he’s a guy that we can count on for sure.”
