Cardinals announce team captains ahead of Week 1 matchup with Bills

As the Arizona Cardinals prepare for their Week 1 clash against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday at 1:10 PM, the team has officially named its captains for the 2024-2025 season. Leading the Cardinals this year are familiar faces: Kyler Murray, James Conner, Budda Baker, and Kyzir White—all of whom served as captains last season as well.

However, there’s a notable change from last year’s leadership group. Offensive lineman D.J. Humphries, who was released five months ago, and linebacker Dennis Gardeck, a four-time captain, are no longer part of the captaincy. While Humphries is no longer with the Cardinals, the absence of Gardeck comes as a bit of surprise considering he has been named captain four different seasons.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon addressed the selection process, highlighting the depth of leadership within the team. “There are a lot of good guys in that lover room; a lot of guys got votes. A lot of leadership, positive leadership in there with a bunch of different guys.”

Gannon also mentioned that the team plans to rotate additional captains on a weekly basis, with additional leaders being chosen each Saturday before game day.
