Bryce Young is still a bit unknown in most NFL circles.
The Carolina Panthers were so inept during his rookie season that saw the team win two games while firing its head coach, no one knows what to make of Young.
His talent suggests he can be a good NFL quarterback. Meanwhile, his rookie season production didn't show that assertion to be true. Still, in the latest ESPN NFL player survey, Young was voted the third-most underrated quarterback in the league.
Young was on a list alongside Brock Purdy, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff and Jordan Love.
The people who played against Young see something in his ability to place well-thrown balls and direct traffic.
Carolina hopes Young lives up to that billing in his second season. The team's entire philosophy was to build up protection around Young, adding two guards, while also bringing in a wide receiver who could realistically net some separation – Diontae Johnson. Then in the draft, Carolina netted Xavier Legette at the tail end of the first round and drafted a running back in Jonathon Brooks at pick No. 46.
If Young proves to be as good as everyone says he can be with the right system and help around him, the Panthers' rebuild appears to be on the right track.
